Enjoy a video tutorial along with the free PDF diagram for this design! This new necklace design coordinates with the Pretty Hearts Bracelet from my last post and is made entirely with seed beads. Perfect for Valentine’s Day! One feature I like about this design is that each inner heart is subtly outlined by an outer heart that interlinks with the next outer heart, but also touches the next inner heart. Because it is made of only seed beads, it is light weight, thin, and comfortable to wear. I enjoyed experimenting with different color combinations and found contrasting colors look best to bring out the inner heart shapes within the frame. I hope you have fun with this free beading pattern!
Materials
You need 11/0 round seed beads in two colors for this necklace, TOHO or Czech, as long as both colors are the same type. You will also need two 6/0 or 8/0 seed beads for the jump rings to go through to connect the clasp.
For length, the best rule of thumb is to continue the first row to the desired length, then add one more component after that. In other words, make it 3/4″ longer than your desired length in the first row. This is because the 2nd row will shrink the length a bit. In the samples shown below, the white hearts framed in pink were made with smaller Czech beads, where 30 hearts in the first row made about a 17-inch necklace (with clasp). Simply add hearts if you want to make it longer (each heart adds just under 3/4-inch). The gold hearts framed in grey, and the red hearts framed in silver were made with TOHO (larger) seed beads. With TOHO seed beads, 27 hearts made about a 17-inch necklace. Each heart you add will add about 3/4 inch to the necklace.
